Arcee Pushes Back on Security Fears Around Chinese Open-Weight AI Models

U.S. AI lab Arcee, which builds open-source alternatives to Chinese models, is declining to stoke security concerns about those rivals. CTO Lucas Atkins told TechCrunch on July 22, 2026 that China's open-weight models — downloadable AI you run yourself — pose no unique risk. Self-hosted inference, he noted, gives the original creator zero access to a deployed model.
