North East keeps bus fares below national cap with local funding

North East Mayor Kim McGuinness said regional bus fares will stay capped at £1 for young people and £2.50 for adults until March 2027 — below the £3 national ceiling for England outside London. The region is funding the lower fares itself, running alongside the government scheme. Bus policy is devolved: Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland set their own.
