North East undercuts national £3 bus fare cap with locally funded lower fares
North East Mayor Kim McGuinness confirmed bus fares in the region will stay capped at £1 for young people and £2.50 for adults until March 2027, below the national £3 ceiling funded for England outside London. The locally funded arrangement runs parallel to the government scheme, which applies until the same date. Bus policy is devolved to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
