Retired judge tells select committee move-on orders are 'callous'

Retired judge Tony Fitzgerald, who ran Auckland's homeless offenders court for 15 years, told a parliamentary committee the proposed move-on orders are "careless and callous" and breach the Bill of Rights Act. The bill lets police direct people as young as 14 who are begging or rough sleeping to move on. Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith says it fills a gap in existing law.
