US Aid Cuts Wiped Out PEPFAR HIV Treatment, CGD Reports

US program terminations completely eliminated PEPFAR's HIV treatment capabilities, according to a February 24, 2026 report by the Center for Global Development. PEPFAR — the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief — had provided life-saving HIV drugs to millions. An earlier October 2025 CGD analysis estimated nearly one in four targeted patients may lack treatment access nationally.
