
Burnham's first act as PM: electricity bill tax cut
Prime Minister Andy Burnham chaired his first cabinet meeting on 21 July 2026. With Chancellor John Healey, he announced a tax cut on household electricity bills to ease cost-of-living pressures. It applies UK-wide, though delivery is partly devolved — meaning Holyrood (Scotland), the Senedd (Wales) and Stormont (Northern Ireland) handle parts of it.
