Burnham's first act as PM: tax cut on household electricity bills
Prime Minister Andy Burnham chaired his first cabinet meeting on 21 July 2026 and, alongside Chancellor John Healey, announced a cut to tax on household electricity bills. The government said the measure would "give breathing space" on the cost of living. It applies UK-wide, though delivery is partially devolved to Holyrood, the Senedd and Stormont.
