New PM Burnham cuts tax on electricity bills

Andy Burnham held his first meeting as Prime Minister on 21 July 2026. With Chancellor John Healey — the government's finance chief — he announced a tax cut on household electricity bills to help with living costs. It covers the whole UK, though Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland run some parts of it themselves.
