Burnham to Cut VAT on Electricity Bills, Funded by Axing Digital ID

Prime Minister Andy Burnham will remove VAT — the sales tax — from household electricity bills starting October 1. Chancellor John Healey confirmed the cost is covered by cancelling the digital ID programme this year. Burnham also hinted at loosening fiscal rules to allow more public investment, while standing by Labour's existing spending commitments.
