New PM Cuts Tax on Electricity Bills by Dropping Digital ID Plan

Prime Minister Andy Burnham will remove the sales tax on household electricity bills from October 1. The money lost will be made up by cancelling a planned digital ID programme this year. Think of it as shifting funds from one government project to lower everyday energy costs. Burnham also signalled openness to bending borrowing rules for public investment, while keeping Labour's spending promises.
