Auckland Council backs housing plan taller than government rules require

Auckland Council voted 17–5 for a housing plan allowing more than 1.4 million homes. It keeps six-storey zoning near transit and town centres, and lifts heights to 10–15 storeys around most train stations within 10km of the city centre — exceeding the minimums set in law. Further public consultation on Plan Change 120 remains before it is finalised.
