Hipkins vows to restore same-day voter enrolment

Labour leader Chris Hipkins has promised to repeal the coalition's Electoral Amendment Bill, which closed the electoral roll 13 days before election day. Ballots cast by unenrolled voters on 7 November will be disqualified. Hipkins said the change "potentially disenfranchises tens of thousands of New Zealanders." Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith called the claims "just speculation."
