Hipkins pledges to reverse law ending same-day voter enrolment

Labour leader Chris Hipkins has promised to reverse the coalition government's Electoral Amendment Bill, which ended same-day voter enrolment and closed the roll 13 days before election day. Voters who show up on 7 November without being enrolled will have their ballots disqualified. Hipkins called it a change that "potentially disenfranchises tens of thousands of New Zealanders." Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith dismissed the claims as "just speculation."
