Labour and National hit 30-year low as preferred PM figures slump

A 1News Verian poll released around 23 June 2026 put Labour and National's combined support at a 30-year low. Luxon (18%) and Hipkins (16%) together drew just 34% in preferred PM ratings reported 6 July — the lowest combined total for the two main party leaders in 33 years. The Opportunity Party neared the 5% threshold needed to enter Parliament.
