National won't back NZ First's $1 billion oil and gas survey

NZ First wants a $1 billion survey of underground oil and gas reserves, launched at its Auckland campaign event on 18 July. But National won't commit to it, saying only it already backs exploration. Labour opposes the plan. NZ First leader Winston Peters called it a "game changer" possible "within six years".
