
Badenoch's welfare-to-defence plan hits a funding gap
At PMQs on 3 September, Kemi Badenoch proposed cutting welfare — including the two-child benefit cap and Motability's VAT exemption — to fund defence. But Rachel Reeves already restored 20% VAT on most new Motability cars last year, the first change to the scheme in 50 years. Some proposed savings may raise less than the Conservatives suggest.
