
Badenoch's defence funding plans face a gap: Reeves already tapped key welfare savings
At PMQs on 3 September, Kemi Badenoch urged cutting welfare to fund defence, including reimposing the two-child benefit cap and removing Motability's VAT exemption. But Rachel Reeves already reinstated 20% VAT on most new Motability cars last year — the first change to the scheme in 50 years. Several proposed savings may yield less than the Conservatives suggest.
