Victoria Scraps Andrews Statue, Ends Automatic Premier Commemoration

Victorian Premier Ben Carroll cancelled a $134,000 taxpayer-funded statue of former Premier Daniel Andrews and scrapped a 1999 policy granting bronze statues to premiers serving over 3,000 days. Carroll said gratitude doesn't require a statue. An independent panel will review how Victoria commemorates officials, and the sculpture contract will go to a new subject.
