Victoria Cancels Daniel Andrews Statue and Ends Automatic Premier Commemoration Policy
Victorian Premier Ben Carroll cancelled the planned $134,000 taxpayer-funded statue of former Premier Daniel Andrews and scrapped a 1999 policy that automatically granted bronze statues to premiers serving over 3,000 days. Carroll said, "gratitude does not require a taxpayer-funded statue." An independent panel will review how Victoria commemorates officials. The existing sculpture contract will be redirected to a new subject.
