Heart organizations agree on first universal heart attack definition

Four major cardiovascular bodies — the ESC, ACC, AHA, and WHF — issued the first globally endorsed heart attack definition on August 28, 2026, in Munich. Prof Nicholas Mills of Edinburgh led the taskforce. The consensus ends fragmented diagnostic standards where patients could be diagnosed in one country but not another. Prof Bryan Williams called it a "radical shift."
