
Government to hold renovation payments in escrow under new trusted-trader scheme
The UK government will launch a trusted-trader database next month. Consumers' money will be held in escrow — a third-party account — and released only when project milestones are met. Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said the government is "taking action to protect consumers." The CMA found customers lost over £10bn in 2024 to rogue or unfair home-maintenance traders.
