Jakarta Corruption March Turns Violent on Anniversary of Deadly 2025 Protests

Thousands marched on Indonesia's parliament in Jakarta on August 28, 2026 — one year after rallies where about 10 died and 7,000 were arrested. Protesters demanded passage of an asset-seizure bill, first introduced in 2008, that would let the state confiscate ill-gotten wealth. After nightfall, clashes erupted: police fired tear gas and water cannons; a police post and motorcycle burned. Several people were stretchered off.
