
Dunedin Hospital's outpatient building opens, inpatient tower delayed to 2031
Whare Mātūtū, a $440 million outpatient building at Dunedin Hospital, opened on 28 August, with clinical care starting in October. But the larger inpatient building — where patients stay overnight — won't open until 2031. Cost overruns and a January 2025 decision to cut beds drew 35,000 protesters, Dunedin's largest rally in decades.
