
Dunedin's new outpatient building opens as inpatient tower stays five years away
Whare Mātūtū, a $440 million outpatient building at Dunedin Hospital, opened on 28 August with clinical care starting in October. But the larger inpatient building is not expected to open until 2031, after years of cost overruns and a January 2025 decision to scale back beds that drew 35,000 protesters — Dunedin's largest rally in decades.
