UK to mandate bailiff accreditation, closing oversight gap in £1bn sector

Private bailiffs in England and Wales must obtain accreditation from the Enforcement Conduct Board to secure or renew their legally required certificates, under reforms announced by PM Andy Burnham. The sector handles over 7 million cases yearly and collects more than £1 billion. Some firms have rejected voluntary oversight. The rules are not expected to fully take effect until 2027.
