UK to require bailiff accreditation, closing oversight loophole in £1bn sector

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced that private bailiffs in England and Wales will need accreditation from the Enforcement Conduct Board to obtain or renew their legally required certificates. The sector handles over 7 million cases yearly and collects more than £1 billion. Some firms have refused voluntary oversight. The new regime is not expected to fully take effect until 2027.
