Luxon won't explain 2029 timeline for rates cap

At a Paraparaumu meeting, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon was asked why the government's 4 percent rates cap cannot start sooner. The cap does not fully apply until 2029, with councils considering the target range from 2027. Luxon did not answer directly, instead explaining the rationale for rates caps. Some councils have already imposed rate rises of 8 to 12 percent.
