Luxon won't say why 4% rates cap can't start sooner
At a packed Paraparaumu meeting, an attendee asked Prime Minister Christopher Luxon why the government's 4 percent rates cap cannot take effect sooner. The cap does not fully apply until 2029; councils begin considering the target range from 2027. Luxon did not directly answer, instead explaining why the government is pursuing rates caps. Some councils have already imposed 8 to 12 percent rate rises.
