Iran-Oman Strait Plan Would Shift Ship Oversight From U.S. to Tehran

Iran and Oman have proposed a temporary shipping lane and demining operation in the Strait of Hormuz, with Oman's foreign minister saying an announcement is expected "soon." The deal would give Tehran authority over ships entering the Gulf — replacing the U.S. naval protection framework at a chokepoint carrying roughly a fifth of global seaborne oil. Iran cautioned the deal alone won't reopen the waterway.
