Iran and Oman Propose Shared Shipping Plan for Key Gulf Route

Iran and Oman proposed a plan to manage ships and clear mines in the Strait of Hormuz — a narrow waterway carrying about a fifth of the world's seaborne oil. Oman says an announcement is coming "soon." The plan would give Iran control over ships entering the Gulf, a role now held by the U.S. Navy. Iran cautioned the deal alone won't reopen the route.
