Firefox to ship JPEG XL by default, leaving Chrome behind

Mozilla will enable JPEG XL decoding by default in Firefox 157, due late September 2026. Safari shipped the format in 2023. Chrome, despite using the same Rust-based decoder as Firefox, has no stated plans to follow. Worth flagging: Chrome's hesitation appears driven by product or partnership factors, not engineering cost.
