Firefox to enable JPEG XL by default, leaving Chrome as sole holdout among major browsers

Mozilla plans to enable JPEG XL (ISO/IEC 18181) decoding by default in Firefox 157, due end of September 2026. Safari shipped the format in 2023. Chrome still has no stated intent to enable it — despite using the same Rust-based decoder, jxl-rs, as Firefox. Chrome's hesitation is presumably driven by product or partnership considerations rather than engineering cost.
