Firefox to support a better image format by default

Mozilla will turn on JPEG XL — a newer image format that produces smaller, sharper photos — by default in Firefox this September. Apple's Safari added it in 2023. Google's Chrome, using the same underlying decoder as Firefox, has no plans to do so, likely for business reasons rather than technical difficulty.
