Polestar exits US market after Commerce Department rejects its connected-vehicle software application

Polestar will stop US sales starting with the 2027 model year after the Commerce Department rejected its application under the connected-vehicle rule, which bans Chinese software in cars. The decision comes despite record estimated sales of 30,423 vehicles in the first half of 2026. Sister company Volvo, sharing the same Chinese owner Geely, received approval in May 2026.
