Polestar forced out of US market by connected-vehicle rule despite record 2026 sales

Polestar will stop selling vehicles in the US starting with the 2027 model year after the Commerce Department rejected its application under the connected-vehicle rule banning Chinese software. The decision comes despite record estimated sales of 30,423 vehicles in the first half of 2026. Sister company Volvo, sharing the same Chinese owner Geely, received approval in May 2026.
