Ottawa to impose $27.6-billion countertariffs on U.S. goods Sept. 8

Ottawa will impose $27.6-billion in countertariffs on U.S. goods starting Sept. 8, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said. The dollar-for-dollar response targets over 700 items — steel, seafood, appliances, smartphones — after President Donald Trump placed 50-per-cent tariffs on roughly $28-billion in Canadian products when trade talks collapsed.
