Canada to add charges on U.S. goods Sept. 8 after trade talks fail

Canada will add charges on $27.6-billion worth of U.S. goods starting Sept. 8, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne announced. The move answers President Donald Trump's decision to tax roughly $28-billion in Canadian products at 50 per cent after trade negotiations collapsed. Over 700 U.S. items are affected, including steel, seafood, appliances and smartphones.
