Ceasefire Monitors Deploy in Eastern Congo

A joint monitoring team arrived in Minembwu, South Kivu on August 24, 2026, to verify compliance with the Qatari-mediated Doha truce signed in July 2025. Congolese officials, M23 representatives, and neutral ICGLR observers form the team, backed by MONUSCO logistics. It will visit Uvira and Kalehe, where fighting persists. A Swiss-facilitated roadmap for peace talks was also agreed.
