Peace Watch Team Arrives in Eastern Congo
A team arrived in Minembwe, South Kivu on August 24, 2026, to check whether a peace deal — the Qatari-mediated Doha truce signed in July 2025 — is holding. The team includes Congolese government and M23 rebel representatives plus neutral observers, with UN logistics support. It will visit Uvira and Kalehe, where fighting continues. The sides also agreed on a Swiss-led plan for peace talks.
