UN Peacekeepers Killed in South Sudan Ambush as Peace Deal Unravels

Armed men attacked a UN patrol near Pajut, Jonglei state, on 24 August 2026, killing two Ethiopian peacekeepers and wounding seven others, including police and civilian staff. UNMISS (the UN mission in South Sudan) sent a Quick Reaction Force and condemned the assault.
