Trump to double Canadian auto tariffs to 50 per cent, add parts in 2027

President Donald Trump will raise tariffs on Canadian autos from 25 to 50 per cent, extending them to auto parts for the first time, effective Jan. 1, 2027. The move followed Friday's collapse of bilateral trade talks after Prime Minister Mark Carney withdrew negotiators. Canada's counter-tariffs on US$20 billion of U.S. goods begin Sept. 8.
