Trump to double taxes on Canadian cars, add auto parts in 2027

President Donald Trump will double import taxes on Canadian vehicles to 50 per cent and, for the first time, apply them to auto parts, starting Jan. 1, 2027. The announcement came after trade talks collapsed Friday when Prime Minister Mark Carney pulled negotiators out. Canada will tax US$20 billion worth of U.S. goods starting Sept. 8.
