The U.S. imposed 50 per cent tariffs — import taxes — on $28 billion in Canadian exports Saturday, hitting products from dairy to hockey sticks. Prime Minister Mark Carney suspended trade talks Friday, calling the proposed deal "bad," and pledged matching retaliatory tariffs starting Sept. 8. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said Canada "declined to finalize the trade deal under the terms agreed."
