U.S. slaps heavy taxes on Canadian goods; Canada plans to hit back Sept. 8

The U.S. now charges a 50 per cent tax on $28 billion worth of Canadian products entering the country — from hockey sticks to honey. Prime Minister Mark Carney halted trade talks Friday, calling the proposed deal "bad," and promised to tax U.S. goods equally starting Sept. 8. U.S. trade official Jamieson Greer said Canada "declined to finalize the trade deal under the terms agreed."
