Labour pledges independent Parliamentary Budget Office

Labour's fiscal strategy, released 22 August, includes an independent Parliamentary Budget Office to cost party policies and forecast the fiscal impact of government decisions — separately from Treasury. Canada, Australia and the UK already have equivalents. Leader Chris Hipkins said the books would be repaired without cutting services.
