Labour promises a budget watchdog if elected

Labour says it will set up an independent office to check the cost of political parties' promises, separately from Treasury. Canada, Australia and the UK already do this. The policy was released 22 August. Leader Chris Hipkins said government finances would be fixed without cutting services.
