China to ban concealed car door handles from 2027 over crash safety

China will ban retractable and concealed car door handles on new vehicles from January 1, 2027, becoming the first country to phase out the design Tesla popularized. The ban addresses risks that power loss during crashes can trap occupants inside. It coincides with China's largest-ever auto recall over door handle safety, affecting Tesla and at least eight other carmakers.
