China to ban concealed car door handles from 2027, citing crash safety risks
China will prohibit retractable and concealed car door handles on new vehicles from January 1, 2027 — the first country to phase out the design popularized by Tesla. The ban targets risks that power losses in crashes can trap occupants. The move coincides with China's largest-ever auto recall over door handle safety, affecting Tesla and at least eight other carmakers.
