China to ban hidden car door handles from 2027 over safety fears
China will ban hidden car door handles — the kind that sit flush with the door and pop out when needed — on new cars from January 1, 2027. The design, made popular by Tesla, can jam if power fails during a crash, trapping people inside. The ban comes alongside China's largest-ever car recall over door handle safety, hitting Tesla and eight other carmakers.
