Tesla Kills Solar Roof, Bets on Conventional Panels
Tesla told its installer network on August 20, 2026, that it will only supply conventional solar panels, discontinuing the Solar Roof tile product launched in 2016. The product was not financially viable: roughly 3,000 U.S. homes received installations against a target of 1,000 per week. Tesla now plans a $10 billion panel factory near Houston.
